Hey everyone! Today's article is over 7 inspirational women who've made a positive difference to society. This isn't really in any specific order or ranking. Enjoy!
1. Alice Paul
Alice Paul was a strong and vocal leader in U.S. women's rights activism within the time period she was alive (the late 19th century up until the late 1970s). Some of the things she fought for were women's suffrage and the Equal Rights Amendment which was sadly never passed despite it literally serving to guarantee equal treatment between sexes in the United States Constitution. She also wrote many books and in 2004 HBO made a movie about her fight in the women's suffrage movement called Iron Jawed Angels.
2. Marsha P. Johnson
Marsha P. Johnson was an American trans rights activist known for her involvement in the Stonewall Riots, LGBT liberation movement, there is also an institution named after her that works to defend the human rights of black trans people, and she was an activist against the way the government was handling the AIDS crisis under the Reagan administration among many other things. Sadly, she was found dead under "mysterious circumstances" and there has been no justice for her up until this date. However, a Netflix documentary was made recently over her and I encourage all of you to watch it to inform yourselves over her life.
3. Betty Friedan
Betty Friedan was a leading feminist activist especially with the ERA (Equal Rights Amendment) and also female liberation. She wrote a very powerful book in 1963 called The Feminine Mystique which questioned gender roles and their ability to make one's life feel fulfilling.
4. Audrey Hepburn
Audrey Hepburn went far beyond her career as an actress and was also a human rights activist. In her life she partnered with UNICEF to help children enduring poverty in foreign countries and helped with the Dutch resistance of German occupation during WWII among many other things.
5. Amelia Earhart
Amelia Earhart proved that women are more capable than only following gender roles during the early 20th century. Not only did she work in a male dominated career, she also wrote books and was the first woman to cross the Atlantic ocean on a solo trip. Sadly though, she mysteriously disappeared during her trip and now there are many new conspiracy theories as to what happened to her.
6. Princess Diana
No short paragraph could fully describe everything that Princess Diana has done because the majority of her activism encompassed many topics. Either way, I'll list only a few of the many things she has done. She campaigned for animal protection, fought against the use of landmines, started many charity organizations helping people battling addictions and homelessness, and finally was the president of the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.
7. Jennifer Aniston
I understand that Jennifer Aniston may not be as involved or have led as many human rights organizations/movements, but hear me out. She is a very active charity donor for the St. Jude's Research Hospital and still attends their events and fundraisers, she received a GLAAD award for speaking up for the LGBT community and actively supporting it, she raised millions of dollars for Hope for Haiti, she overcame living with an unsupportive mother and succeeded, and more recently has been very vocal on Instagram over the Black Lives Matter movement.
Thank you for reading!!
