Hello everyone!
Our lives can feel so busy and overwhelming that it's hard to remember when or how to wind down. Other times we simply forget how easy it actually is to feel better. In this article, I included my favorite ways to easily bring my mood up and de-stress after long days. I hope you all enjoy!
1. Listen to happy & empowering music
This is an underrated technique in my opinion. I think that the way we listen to music and the types of genres we choose deeply impact our mood as well as how we view the world. If you only listen to music that describes life as something terrible and cynical, then you'll start viewing everything pessimistically. On the other hand, listening to music that makes life out to be a joyous thing and that you are an important part of it can lead you to view your life the same way. Just trust me and try it out.
2. Drink a warm cup of tea
Whenever I feel sick, tense, frustrated, or just need something to make me feel good again; I drink a big hot cup of chamomile tea. I'm not sure how "scientific" my techniques are (this is all just anecdotal advice), but I heard that when you drink tea it releases an amino acid called theanine that boosts your brain activity therefore giving you a sense of a clearer mind.
3. Meditate
Meditation is typically associated with spirituality, but it doesn't have to be. The way meditation works is you put all your focus and energy into your breathing, nothing else. At first it can be difficult, but you can build up your stamina with apps used for meditating such as Headspace.
Here's a website you can use to learn even more about meditation tips: (https://www.mindful.org/how-to-meditate/)
It's mainly important for the similar reason the majority of these techniques are, it clears your mind.
4. Do some yoga
Physical activity is also a great way to reduce your stress and make you feel stronger. One of my favorite ways to workout is through yoga exercises because they are very relaxing and simple to do. You also only need a mat and workout clothes to get started. Then, you can watch some Youtube videos to follow along such as the youtuber Madfit who has so many amazing workout videos.
5. Brain-dump your ideas onto paper
Keeping up with the clear state of mind theme, brain-dumping brings your thoughts onto paper and makes them feel less intimidating. This way you can see that whatever has been fogging up your mind is actually not as scary as you thought it was.
You can also write down your happy thoughts to reflect over them in the future or story ideas as well as a to-do list you don't need to keep remembering.
6. Talk to a friend
You don't need to always talk to your friends about your problems. It's actually better to just have someone to talk to about lighthearted things and to distract your mind from the crazy world. Sometimes they'll help you realize that other things, such as happiness, are more important.
7. Go out for a walk
Catch some fresh air and UV rays by going on frequent walks outside. You can always set up a soothing playlist or invite a friend to go with you too, but don't forget to live in and enjoy the moment.
8. Clean your room
This is the most common thing I hear whenever someone mentions wanting to improve their mental state. "Just clean your room." It obviously isn't as simple as just doing that, but it makes sense as a starting point. Once your room has all of its clutter erased, you can finally think clearly and feel less frustrated about finding objects in it.
