All about: the blue ✧

don't forget to look at our profile and read some of the other articles!

Today I bring you a very special article, and that is that I am going to be talking about the color blue.

This color is many people's favorite, plus blue is the world's favorite color, according to a new international research study of nearly 13,000 consumers in 17 countries.

Blue is the color that we associate most with sympathy, harmony, friendship and trust, all of these feelings are achieved over time and are based on reciprocity. The sky is blue, and that's why blue is the divine color, the color of the eternal. Gods live in the sky and blue is the color that surrounds them, in fact in many religions blue is the color of the gods themselves. Continued experience has made blue the color of everything that we want to remain, of everything that should last forever.

It is the color of fantasy, of all those ideas whose realization is far away, and we can also speak of what is illusion and mirage.

In French "j’en reste bleu", it means that a person is amazed or surprised. And when he exclaims "parbleu!" is that something is fantastic and difficult to explain.

Some curiosities:

  • Ultramarine blue, the most expensive color of all time

In ancient times this blue pigment was the most favored of painters for its high degree of purity and luminosity. Its high price is due to the fact that ultramarine blue could only be produced by crushing the semi-precious Lapis Lazuli stone. Currently this pigment is produced synthetically, but for lovers of historical colors it is still possible to get its original version with the price of 15,000 Euros per kilo.
  • Where does the word blue come from?

The word comes from the Andalusian Arabic lazawárd, which means 'lapis lazuli'. The mineral is one of the few natural objects of blue color, and for that reason it happened to designate it. But Spanish, along with Galician and Portuguese, is a curious case: in the rest of the closest languages (Catalan, French, Italian, English ...), a different root is used, the German one: blue is in these languages blau, bleu, blu and blue, respectively. Did that root also reach Spanish? Yes it did! In the dictionary, blao still appears as a synonym for blue. But this word has been in disuse since the 18th century.

  • Is the blue color your favorite color?

46% of men and 44% of women choose it as preferred and there is no other that exceeds this percentage. It is not only the preferred option, it is also the least hated color of all, since only 1% of men and 2% of women choose it as the least liked. Therefore, it is not surprising that we see it everywhere, from our clothes (we usually wear blue at any time of the year) to the decoration of our home. The only place where blue is not dominant is in the food sector, there are few products of this color.

♕ ♔

Blue blood? So it is said of the characters of royalty. The origin dates back to the days when the members of the nobility almost did not go out, their skin was very white and, therefore, the veins stood out with a bluish hue.

In 1858, a student named William Gladstone - who would later become Prime Minister of Great Britain - realized that there were hardly any references to colors in The Odyssey. So Gladstone counted the number of color references throughout the book. While there were about 200 references to black and about 100 to white, references to other colors were exceptional. The color red was mentioned about 15 times, and there were fewer than 10 references to the colors yellow and green. Gladstone began to review other ancient Greek texts and the same thing happened in all of them - nothing was described as "blue". That word did not even exist! The color blue did not exist in the same way we know it, it did not differ from green or shades of green. It is not unusual because in fact there is hardly anything blue in nature - "there are no blue animals and blue plants are mainly man-made"; apparently one can live considering that the sky is simply the sky, without any concrete color.

And that's it for today, I hope you liked this article and that you have learned more about the color blue. If you want us to make some other color, don't forget to tell us!
